KMD, originally an acronym for "Kausin' Much Damage" and later "a positive Kause in a Much Damaged society," was a hip hop group formed in 1986 or 1987 by Zev Love X, Subroc, Jade1, and Prime. The group recorded a single titled "The Therapist" in 1987, but it was never released. Jade1 and Prime departed before the recording of their debut album, Mr. Hood, which came out in 1991, and Onyx the Birthstone Kid joined the lineup. However, Onyx left in 1992 during the production of their second album, Black Bastards, released in 1994. The group faced a significant setback following the death of Subroc in 1993 while they were working on Bl_ck-B_st_rds, leading Elektra to drop them and shelve the album. The loss of his brother and the disbandment from Elektra caused Zev Love X to step back from the music industry, but he eventually resurfaced. Black Bastards was finally released in 2000, seven years after it was recorded, not including promotional or bootleg versions.
