Koffi Olomidé, born Antoine Christophe Agbepa Mumba on July 13, 1956, in Kisangani, is a renowned Congolese soukous singer, musician, composer, writer, arranger, and producer. With over 35 years in the music industry, he has become one of the most popular Congolese and African singers, significantly influencing the Congolese media landscape. Initially, Koffi began his career as a songwriter, selling compositions to prominent artists of his time. In 1977, he joined a band where he started his recording journey alongside various artists. He launched his solo career in 1983 and founded his own band in 1986. Koffi's career gained momentum in 1990 when he signed a contract with a record company, which lasted until 2003 when the company went bankrupt. During this partnership, he released thirteen albums, including six solo albums, five with his band, one in collaboration with Papa Wemba, and one live album. Notably, on February 19, 2000, he became the first African artist to fill a venue with 17,000 seats without any promotion. Throughout his career, Koffi Olomidé has received seven gold records and five Kora Awards, the African equivalent of the Grammy, including four awards in 2002 for his album. He is recognized as one of the best-selling African artists globally.
