Koinonia is a US American Christian fusion jazz band founded in 1980. The band's name, derived from Greek, means "partnership," "fellowship," or "to communicate by the act of using as common." Koinonia made its first public appearance in 1980, and the original lineup included Abraham Laboriel, Bill Maxwell, Harlan Rogers, Hadley Hockensmith, Dean Parks, John Phillips, and Alex Acuña. After the release of their debut album, Justo Almario replaced John Phillips, and Dean Parks left the band due to travel commitments. Lou Pardini joined in 1988. Throughout their career, Koinonia released three studio albums and one live album. Their latest album showcased a new concept featuring vocal songs, marking a departure from their initial instrumental focus. The band disbanded in 1991.
