Kool G Rap and DJ Polo were a pioneering hip-hop duo from Queens, New York, active in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They were known for their gritty street narratives and complex rhyme schemes, playing a crucial role in shaping hardcore and mafioso rap. With the support of Juice Crew producer Marley Marl, Kool G Rap and DJ Polo recorded a demo that led to their song "It's a Demo." The track was written and recorded in one night, impressing Marley so much that he embraced them as part of the Juice Crew. Kool G Rap secured a record deal through DJ Polo, and they recorded three albums together before Kool G Rap went solo.
