Kool G Rap & DJ Polo were a pioneering hip-hop duo from Queens, New York, active in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They were known for their gritty street narratives and complex rhyme schemes, playing a crucial role in shaping hardcore and mafioso rap. The duo caught the attention of Juice Crew producer Marley Marl, who allowed them to record a demo in his studio, resulting in the song "It's a Demo." This song was written and recorded in one night, impressing Marley so much that he instantly embraced Kool G Rap and DJ Polo. Kool G Rap secured a record deal through DJ Polo, and together they recorded three albums before Kool G Rap went solo.
