Kool G Rap and DJ Polo were a pioneering hip-hop duo from Queens, New York, active in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They were known for their gritty street narratives and complex rhyme schemes, playing a crucial role in shaping hardcore and mafioso rap. With the support of Juice Crew producer and DJ Marley Marl, Kool G Rap and DJ Polo recorded a demo that led to their first song, "It's a Demo." Written and recorded in one night, the track impressed Marley Marl, who embraced them as part of his crew. Kool G Rap secured a record deal through DJ Polo, and together they recorded three albums before Kool G Rap went solo.
