Koubotripes A.E. (Buttonholes S.A.) was a Post-Punk group from Athens, Greece, formed in April 1979. The original lineup included Michalis Koumbios (vocals, keyboards), Nikos Zilakos (bass), Nikos Moschos (keyboards), Nikos Barbounis (guitar), Nikitas Barbounis (drums), and Nikos Houlis. The band, consisting of six high-school friends, was influenced by a diverse range of music, particularly inspired by acts such as Joy Division, Public Image Ltd, Virgin Prunes, Tuxedomoon, and Bauhaus. The name "Koubotripes" was suggested by Nikos Moschos. Shortly after, the band acquired their first inexpensive instruments and began rehearsing at Nikos Barbounis' home in Hatzikiriakio, Piraeus. In 1982, Koumbios secured a deal with an indie label to release a 7" single, but the other band members disagreed, believing that a punk band should not collaborate with a commercial entity. Consequently, Koumbios recorded the single with different musicians: Panagiotis Zygouris (guitar), Yorgos Spanos (bass), and Michalis Brezas (drums).
