Kraftwerk is a German electronic music group formed in Düsseldorf in 1970. Initially known by a different name, the band debuted live as a trio consisting of Ralf Hütter, Florian Schneider-Esleben, and Charly Weiss at the Tivoli Popfestival in Aachen on July 11, 1970. Klaus Dinger later joined as the drummer, and from December 26, 1970, to July 31, 1971, the group performed with various line-ups, including Michael Rother. After a gig on July 31, 1971, Dinger and Rother left to form another band, while Hütter returned shortly after. The first known performance featuring Hütter and Schneider was on November 22, 1971, at the Sachsenwald Gymnasium in Hamburg. Current members include Ralf Hütter, who has been with the band since September 1971, contributing lead vocals, vocoder, synthesizers, keyboards, organ, drums, percussion, guitar, and bass guitar. Henning Schmitz and Fritz Hilpert have been part of the group since 1987, focusing on electronic percussion and sound engineering. Falk Grieffenhagen joined in 2013 as a video technician.
