Krzysztof Komeda was a Polish jazz pianist and composer of film music, born on April 27, 1931, in Poznań, Poland. By profession, he was a doctor of laryngology. A founder of jazz modernism in Poland, Komeda is known for his soundtracks for over 60 films, including "Knife In the Water" ("Nóz w wodzie", 1962), "Repulsion" (1965), "The Trap" (1966), and "Rosemary's Baby" (1968). He collaborated with various musicians, notably on the "Knife In the Water" soundtrack and his "Astigmatic" album. Tragically, in December 1968, while in Los Angeles, Komeda suffered an accident that led to a haematoma of the brain and died on April 23, 1969, in Warsaw, Poland, at the age of 37, after never recovering from a coma following his return to Poland. He was married.
