Kumiko Hara was a Japanese jazz singer and mountaineer, born on December 24, 1954, in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo. She lost her sight at an early age due to congenital hypertrophy retinal pigment. During high school, she participated in rock and jazz bands, playing keyboards and singing. After graduating, she attended Tokyo College of Music, where she performed at live venues alongside a prominent pianist. Discovered by a record company, she made her singing debut in 1977 at the age of 22. Her notable singles include "Koi wa Kisha no Yō," "Hottoite," and "Midnight Train," while her albums feature "No Smoking," "Neppū," and "Unhappy Birthday." In addition to her music career, Kumiko had a passion for hiking, which led her to develop a love for mountains, inspiring her to write a book about one of them. In 1994, she successfully reached the summit of Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Europe, at 4,807 meters. Kumiko Hara passed away at the age of 50 due to a brain tumor on October 17, 2005, in Shinagawa City, Tokyo.
