Kurupt, born Ricardo Brown on November 23, 1972, in Philadelphia, is a prominent rapper known as Tha Kingpin, Kalhoon, and Young Gotti. As a teenager, he moved to Hawthorne, CA, to live with his father, where he befriended Snoop Doggy Dogg and later signed with Death Row Records. Kurupt made notable appearances on Dr. Dre's 1992 classic "The Chronic" and Snoop's 1993 debut "Doggy Style" before teaming up to form Tha Dogg Pound. They debuted with "Dogg Food" in 1995. Kurupt co-founded the ANTRA label and released his solo debut, "Kuruption," in 1998. Just before his 1999 sophomore album, "Tha Streetz Iz a Mutha," he made headlines when his bodyguard was shot to death outside the Los Angeles studio where he was recording.
