Kyriakos Sfetsas, born on September 29, 1945, in Amfilochia, Greece, was raised in Lefkada, where he began his music studies at a young age with the Philarmonic Band and the National Conservatory of Lefkada under Fotis Vlachos. He furthered his education at the National Conservatory of Athens from 1963 to 1966, studying piano with Krino Kalomiri and music theory with Michalis Vourtsis. Notably, he accompanied Maria Callas on piano during her final performance in Greece on August 30, 1964. After relocating to Paris following the 1967 dictatorship in Greece, he received a French State scholarship (1969-1972) to study composition, analysis, and orchestral conducting under Max Deutsch, while also seeking guidance from I. Xenakis, Luigi Nono, and Henri Dutilleux. His first public performance, "Episodes for piano solo," occurred shortly after the May 1968 uprising in Paris, garnering positive reviews. He subsequently received commissions from French Radio and TV, the Ars Nova Orchestra, and the Dance Group of Vitry, and his works were featured in prominent international contemporary music festivals. In 1974, he released one of the first four-channel electro-acoustic pieces for the Ballet Smog. Sfetsas made his debut as a composer in Greece at the 4th Hellenic Week of Contemporary Music in September
