L.A. Guns is an American rock band known for its association with the L.A. glam metal scene that emerged around the Sunset Strip in the 1980s, particularly within the sleaze rock subgenre. The band was formed in 1983 by guitarist Tracii Guns and drummer Rob Gardner. Over the next few years, it evolved into the original version of L.A. Guns. Tracii Guns left the band in 1985 to create a new version of L.A. Guns. Throughout its history, many musicians have been part of various iterations of the band, with no single member consistently present. The longest-serving and best-known members include Tracii Guns, drummer Steve Riley, who joined in 1987, and vocalist Phil Lewis. The L.A. Guns name has been co-owned by both Tracii Guns and Steve Riley, leading to multiple versions of the band over time. Riley and Lewis led L.A. Guns from 1999 until 2016, while Guns had a separate version from 2006 to 2012. In 2016, Lewis and Guns formed a new version of the band, and in 2018, Riley announced his own version, which included former bassist Kelly Nickels. In 2020, a lawsuit was filed by Lewis and Guns against Riley over the trademark of the L.A.
