Renato Capriles, dissatisfied with managing existing orchestras such as Los Melódicos, La Grande, Los Solitas, and La Chica, founded a new group called La Inmensa in Valencia at the beginning of the 1980s. He established a party business named Fiestas La Inmensa and set up the orchestra's offices in a rented house on Bolivar Avenue, near La Ceiba. La Inmensa was officially founded on August 5, 1980. The founding musicians included José "Pepe" Molina (sax and director), Andrea Brachfel (flute), Omaira Pérez, Martín Rodríguez, and José Castillo (saxophones), Alfredo Molina, Julio Barráez, and Ricardo Díaz (trumpets), Eduardo Villa, Israel Díaz, and Luis Arocha (trombones), Alfredo Sojo (piano), Carlos Barreto (bass), Mario Rodríguez (drums), Rubén Suárez (tumbadora), and Guillermo León (bongo).
