La Muerte is a Belgian alternative rock band formed in Brussels in 1983. Known for their loud rock sound, they achieved cult status, becoming more popular internationally than in their home country. The band officially dissolved in 1994, although they continued to release music sporadically. In 2015, La Muerte reunited with a new lineup, releasing new recordings and performing at major festivals. They are set to be active until 2025. The band's music conjures extreme and horrifying images of death, addiction, the road, and urban violence, blending putrid rock 'n' roll with manic-depressive blues-rock. Throughout the 80s and early 90s, they released a series of cult albums and EPs that resonated with those feeling abandoned by love or devoid of hope. La Muerte's growling, howling sound and feedback-laden guitar work provided refuge for those grappling with the darker aspects of life.
