**Bio: La Niña de los Peines** Pastora Pavón Cruz, known as La Niña de los Peines, was born on February 10, 1890, in Seville, Spain. She is celebrated as the most important female flamenco singer of the 20th century. Coming from a musical family, she was the sister of singers Arturo Pavón and Tomás, and the aunt of the first flamenco pianist. Together with her brothers and singer Manuel Torre, she inspired a generation of flamenco singers who revived traditional forms in the 1950s to 1970s. La Niña de los Peines began her singing career at the young age of 8 at the Feria de Sevilla. She gained recognition while performing at Café de la Marina in Madrid, where she was nicknamed "La Niña de los Peines" due to a stanza she sang in tangos style. Despite never learning to read or write, she started singing professionally to support her family, performing in various venues across Spain. In 1910, she made her first recordings, and by 1920, she was earning the highest fee ever paid to an artist at Teatro Romea. Her career flourished, and she participated in the Concurso de Cante Jondo in Granada in 1922, alongside notable flamenco artists.
