La Sardina de Naiguatá is a musical group founded by trumpeter Ricardo Díaz, aimed at creating a fusion between traditional Venezuelan parranda music and modern instrumentation. Originating from Naiguatá, a town in the coastal state of Vargas, Venezuela, the group draws inspiration from the region's vibrant festival culture, particularly the Carnival celebrations. After Carnival, the community observes a ceremonial closure known as El Entierro de la Sardina, which signifies the beginning of Lent. This event features a procession where participants dress as various characters related to a central theme, often reflecting current events. The group's name is derived from this popular ceremony.
