Labi Siffe is a British vocalist, musician, and artist born on 25 June 1945 in Hammersmith, London, England. Raised in London, he is the son of an English mother and a Nigerian father. After working various jobs, including as a mini-cab driver and delivery man, Siffe focused on music full-time and moved to Cannes, France, where he played guitar with several soul musicians and bands. He returned to the UK in the late 1960s and achieved solo success in 1971 with hits like "It Must Be Love" and "Crying, Laughing, Loving, Lying." Although his last hit of the 1970s was "Watch Me" in 1972, he made a notable comeback in 1987 with "(Something Inside) So Strong." In recent years, his work has gained recognition from a new generation, particularly after the break from his song "I Got The" from the 1975 album, which was sampled by another artist in his breakthrough hit in 1999. Nowadays, Siffe dedicates much of his time to writing poetry that addresses gay rights and various world issues.
