Labi Siffre is a British vocalist, musician, and artist, born on June 25, 1945, in Hammersmith, London, England. He is the son of an English mother and a Nigerian father. After working various jobs, including as a mini-cab driver and delivery man, Siffre dedicated himself to music, relocating to Cannes, France, to play guitar with different soul musicians and bands. He returned to the UK in the late 1960s, achieving solo success in 1971 with hits like "It Must Be Love" and "Crying, Laughing, Loving, Lying." Although his last hit of the 1970s was "Watch Me" in 1972, he made a notable comeback in 1987 with "(Something Inside) So Strong." In recent years, a new generation has rediscovered his work, particularly after a sample from his song "I Got The" from the 1975 album was used in a breakthrough hit in 1999. Nowadays, Siffre focuses on writing poetry that addresses gay rights and various global issues.
