Ladi6, born in 1982 in Christchurch, New Zealand, began her musical career as part of an all-girl hip-hop group that gained recognition with the hit track "If I Gave You The Mic." She was nominated for Best Vocalist/MC at the 2003 bNet Music Awards. Later, she moved to Auckland and joined the band Verse Two, which became known as a leading live soul/hip-hop group in New Zealand. They won the bNet Best New Act Award in 2004 and supported various international acts while touring the country. Ladi6's vocals have featured on notable tracks by prominent New Zealand artists. She spent six months living in Berlin and toured Europe in 2010 and 2011. Her debut album, "Time Is Not Much," debuted at number 4 on the New Zealand Top 40 Album chart, while her second album, "The Liberation Of...," debuted at number 6 and was certified gold. The single "Like Water" achieved platinum certification in June 2011. Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards, including Best Female Solo Artist and Best Urban Hip Hop Album at the 2011 New Zealand Music Awards, as well as Best Urban/Hip Hop Album at the 2009 New Zealand Music Awards. Ladi6 is also known for producing much of her music, with her partner Parks contributing backing vocals on many tracks.
