Ladi6, born in 1982 in Christchurch, New Zealand, began her musical career as part of an all-girl hip-hop group known for the hit track "If I Gave You The Mic." She received a nomination for Best Vocalist/MC at the 2003 bNet Music Awards. Ladi later moved to Auckland and joined the band Verse Two, which quickly gained a reputation as a leading live soul/hip-hop group in New Zealand. They won the bNet Best New Act Award in 2004 and toured extensively, supporting international acts. Ladi6's vocals have been featured on standout tracks by various notable New Zealand artists. She spent six months living in Berlin and toured Europe in 2010 and 2011. Her debut album, "Time Is Not Much," debuted at number 4 on the New Zealand Top 40 Album chart, while her second album, "The Liberation Of...," debuted at number 6 and was certified gold. Her single "Like Water" achieved platinum status in June 2011. Over the years, she has won numerous awards, including Best Female Solo Artist and Best Urban Hip Hop Album at the 2011 New Zealand Music Awards, as well as Best Urban/Hip Hop Album at the 2009 New Zealand Music Awards. Ladi6 collaborates closely with her partner, Parks, who produces most of her music and provides backing vocals for many of her tracks.
