Laibach is a Slovenian post-industrial band formed in 1980 in Trbovlje, Slovenia, during the time when Slovenia was part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The band's name is derived from the German name for Slovenia's capital city, Ljubljana. Initially recognized as one of the pioneers of martial industrial music, Laibach later shifted their musical direction towards a crossover style that incorporates rock, pop, and techno or dance influences. In 2015, Laibach gained international attention by performing two shows in North Korea, leading to claims that they were the first 'Western' band to perform there, a statement that was later disputed. The official members of Laibach include founding member Andrej Lupinc, who plays bass guitar, and Bine Zerko, also a founding member. Other notable contributors include members who play various instruments such as synthesizers, guitars, drums, and vocals. The band has collaborated with numerous musicians over the years, contributing to their evolving sound and performance style.
