Laid Back is a Danish electronic music duo from Copenhagen, formed in 1979 by Tim Stahl and John Guldberg. They initially met in the previous decade while working with the Starbox Band, discovering their musical compatibility. Shortly after, they signed a contract with Teldec subsidiary Ultraphone and released their first single, “Maybe I’m Crazy,” in 1980, followed by their self-titled debut album the next year. In 1982, they signed with the Medley label and achieved success with “Sunshine Reggae,” which supported their second album, Keep Smiling. While the single did not perform well in the U.S., its B-side, “White Horse,” gained popularity among club DJs and topped the Billboard club chart, later being referenced in Monifah’s 1998 hit “Touch It.” Following the albums Play It Straight and See You in the Lobby, Laid Back found further success with the Ariola label, releasing hits like “Bakerman” and albums such as Hole in the Sky and Why Is Everybody in Such a Hurry!, along with the retrospective Laidest Greatest. Although they released only Unfinished Symphonies and Happy Dreamer in the following years, they also worked as film music composers, winning a Robert, the Danish equivalent of an Oscar, for their work on Flyvende Farmor.
