Lalo Schifrin was an Argentinian film and TV score composer, arranger, conductor, and pianist, born on June 21, 1932, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He passed away on June 26, 2025, in Los Angeles, USA. A classically trained musician, he was the son of the concertmaster of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic, and his first piano teacher was Enrique Barenboim, the father of conductor Daniel Barenboim. Schifrin studied at the Paris Conservatory and met jazz trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie in 1956, moving to the United States in 1958. He was a member of Gillespie's quintet from 1960 to 1962, during which he wrote extended works like "Gillespiana" and "The New Continent." Schifrin gained significant recognition as a composer for the screen, notably for the theme of "Mission: Impossible" (TV series from 1966 to 1973 and later films from 1996), as well as for the films "Cool Hand Luke" (1967), "Bullitt" (1968), and "Dirty Harry" (1971). Over his career, he received six Oscar nominations, four Grammy Awards (with twenty-one nominations), and one Cable ACE Award.
