Larry Graham, born on August 14, 1946, in Beaumont, Texas, is an American baritone singer, musician, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known as the bass guitar player in a popular and influential psychedelic soul/funk band, as well as the founder and frontman of another group. Graham is credited with inventing the slapping technique, which significantly expanded the tonal palette of the bass, although he refers to this technique as "Thumpin' and Pluckin'."
