Larry Young was an American jazz organist born on October 7, 1940, in Newark, New Jersey. He was known for his distinctive sound, which involved the management of the stops on the Hammond organ, creating an ethereal, drifting effect that served as both lead and background. Young passed away from untreated pneumonia on March 30, 1978, in New York City at the age of 37.
