**Bio: Las Chics** Las Chics is a pioneering Mexican rock band formed in the early 1960s, recognized alongside groups like Las Mary Jets as one of the first all-female rock bands. The quartet consisted of Rocío Gardel (requinto), Silvia Verania Garcel (drums), Rosita Loperena (rhythm guitar), and Mayita Loperena (bass). Silvia and Rocío, who were studying acting at the "Andres Soler" academy, initially came together with Rosita while working on dubbing for a series. They decided to form a band, initially considering the name "Las Pollitas" before settling on "Chic's." Maria Antonieta de las Nieves was briefly a member, but she left before their first audition due to parental permission issues. Rocío took the lead, rigorously training the band in song and dance routines. The band found their fourth member, Mayita, after convincing her parents to let her join. They began performing at the café 'Ticki-Ticki' and soon landed a significant gig at the carnival in Tampico, where they faced overwhelming fan enthusiasm. Their first manager was Jorge de la Madrid Campos, and they secured contracts at the Bar Montenegro and various Caravanas Corona, performing alongside notable artists of the time.
