Latto, born Alyssa Michelle Stephens on December 22, 1998, in Toledo, Ohio, is an American rapper, reality TV star, and former drag racer of Ethiopian descent. She is the younger cousin of another rapper. Originally known as Mulatto, she changed her stage name to Latto in January 2021 following racial criticism of her former name. Latto gained fame after winning the first season of the reality contest show The Rap Game in 2016, after which she released her debut single, "No More Talkin'." Her rise to popularity was marked by various feuds and controversies, including conflicts with fellow artists such as Supa Peach. In 2017, after a fallout with Jermaine Dupri, she was dropped from his label.
