**Bio: Laughter in the Garden** Laughter in the Garden was formed in Southampton, UK, in 1982 and existed for two years. The band recorded and released a four-song 12" EP titled 'A Corridor of Statues' in 1982. Their music received airplay from notable DJs John Peel and David 'Kid' Jensen during the summer of that year, leading to a Radio 1 session at BBC Maida Vale, which aired twice on Jensen's show in the autumn. This session was produced by Dale Griffin, who also produced the first Smiths session shortly after. One of their tracks, 'Desperate Remedies,' holds the distinction of being the shortest song ever recorded for a BBC session. Laughter in the Garden was well-received live, often filling venues like Bath Mole's and The Joiner's Arms in Southampton. However, despite their potential, the band faced challenges due to poor management. They were hastily signed by Crash/Satril Records, which led to the release of the single 'Clutch Tight' in 1983. This single was considered the band's weakest effort and suffered from over-production. Although it was played by Kid Jensen, it was later banned by the BBC after Tony Blackburn objected to its cover photograph. The band made three television appearances: on a local BBC children's show, in a BBC documentary, and during a live performance on ITV's pop show 'DJ.'
