LaVern Baker was an American R&B singer known for her several hit records on the pop chart during the 1950s and early 1960s. Born Delores Williams on November 11, 1929, in Chicago, IL, she made a significant impact on the music scene. Baker passed away on March 10, 1997, in New York City, NY. In recognition of her contributions to music, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 as a performer.
