Lavern Baker, born Delores Williams on November 11, 1929, in Chicago, IL, was an American R&B singer known for her numerous hit records on the pop charts during the 1950s and early 1960s. She passed away on March 10, 1997, in New York City, NY. In recognition of her contributions to music, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 as a Performer.
