Lawrence and the Arabians was formed in 1965 by Lawrence (Larry) Kidwell, who also served as the band's vocalist and played bass and keyboards. The group, known for its horn-driven soul music, quickly gained popularity in the teen club circuit of Prince George's County, USA. In their early years, they recorded their first single, a cover of "Ooh Baby, Baby," backed by an original track titled "Coincidence." Over the next three years, Kidwell, along with drummer Mike Zack and their friends, balanced their musical pursuits with school, becoming one of the most celebrated bands in the area, primarily performing cover versions of soul tunes. However, as the music scene evolved in the late 1960s, Lawrence and the Arabians struggled to adapt to the changing landscape, leading to the band's burnout by 1970.
