Ry-Co Jazz, originally founded in Congo in 1958/59, became pan-African heroes in the 1960s by introducing their vibrant Congo/Latin rhythms to West Africa. The band was managed by a hit parade guitarist who was instrumental in bringing Franco into the recording studio. Original members included Panda Gracia and others, and they were later joined by an ace guitarist who remained with the group until their journey ended in 1972. In 1967, with the addition of sax master, they spent four years in the French Antilles, significantly influencing the pioneers of 'zouk' music.
