**Bio: Le Sahel** Le Sahel, originally known as l'Orchestre du Sahel, emerged from the disbanded band Xalam, which was founded in 1965 by Sakhir Thiam and included members such as Idrissa Diop, Cheikh Tidiane Tall, and Thierno Koite. After Xalam's disbandment, Ndiouga Kebe, a wealthy businessman, invited the musicians to be the house band for his nightclub, the Sahel, leading to the group's new name. The original lineup featured musicians skilled in various instruments and vocals, including guitar, keyboards, percussion, drums, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, and more. Le Sahel was known for its eclectic musical style, blending African sounds such as mbalax, Pulaar, and Mandingo music with salsa, soul, blues, jazz, R&B, funk, and pop. This fusion was showcased in their only album, *Bamba*, recorded in 1975, which included notable tracks like "Tribute to Mbaye Fall" and "Khandiou." Despite achieving significant popularity in Senegal, the group disbanded in 1978 after only three years. Recently, former members Idrissa Diop, Cheikh Tidiane Tall, and Thierno Koite have been working with the new label Teranga Beat on a revival and reunion project for l'Orchestre Le Sahel.
