Leila is a musician and producer originally known for her work supporting Björk and Galliano. She has become a mainstay of the British IDM genre, signing to Aphex Twin's Rephlex Records in the mid-90s. Born in Iran, Leila spent part of her childhood there before fleeing to London with her family. Her interest in DJing and keyboards led her to leave college to collaborate with Björk on her first album, 1994's 'Debut'. She later became the sound engineer for Björk's second LP and began setting up her own home studio. Leila released her first solo single, 'Don't Fall Asleep', in 1997, followed by the album 'Like Weather' the next year. In 1999, she released 'Love Story' and the single 'Sodastream'. Her moodier second album, 'Courtesy of Choice', came out on XL in 2000. After the loss of her mother, Leila coped with her grief by touring and working with Björk. She took a break from music after her father's passing, enlisting friends and family to assist with her third album. In spring 2008, she signed to Warp Records, releasing the singles 'Mettle' and 'Deflect' ahead of her album 'Blood, Looms and Blooms' that summer.
