Leith Stevens was an American composer and musician known for his work in radio, television, and film scores. Born on September 13, 1909, in Mount Moriah, Missouri, he was a child prodigy pianist who made his professional debut at the age of fourteen in Kansas City, Missouri. Two years later, he conducted for the first time. Stevens pursued further music education at Juilliard, where he received a fellowship. Throughout his career, he composed soundtracks for over fifty films, primarily during the 1950s and 1960s, and received three Academy Award nominations. In addition to his film work, he conducted symphony orchestras, composed a piano concerto, and wrote pop tunes. He was also one of the founders and the first president of the Composers and Lyricists Guild of America. Leith Stevens passed away on July 23, 1970, in Los Angeles, California, due to a heart attack.
