Lenis Guess was a US soul singer, songwriter, and producer born in 1940 in Norfolk, Virginia. He passed away on October 5, 2021, in Norfolk at the age of 81. Guess played a significant role in the development of what is now known as "The Norfolk Sound." In the 1960s and 1970s, he was a prominent figure in the soul and funk genres, recording notable regional hits for producer Frank Guida's local music labels as well as his own companies, D.P.G. and Guess. In addition to his music career, Guess was also a filmmaker, playwright, actor, and theatre director.
