Lenny Dee Ice, born on May 14, 1967, was an influential English record producer and DJ from London. He began his career as a Raregroove and Hip-Hop DJ in the late 1980s alongside his friend DJ ET. His journey into the acid house scene started at The Dungeons club on Lea Bridge Road, East London, after he attended a rave on Carpenters Road in Stratford, where he drew inspiration from acid house producers. He became involved with the renowned De Underground record shop in Forest Gate, where he was mentored by a producer who taught him how to use Cubase. Lennie's debut release, which is cited as one of the first proto Jungle records, was claimed to have been made in 1989 but was not released until 1991. This track became a staple in the sets of fellow jungle pioneer DJ Randall, co-owner of De Underground. The track's success contributed to the emergence of jungle and drum & bass music. Throughout the 1990s, Lennie's influence extended beyond his hit track, as he released music under various aliases and collaborated with several collectives. Much of his work was released on his own label, and he also hosted radio shows on Rave FM, Friends FM, and Dance FM. Lenny Dee Ice passed away on December 10, 2024, at the age of 57.
