Leon Gardner was a soul artist active in Los Angeles during the 1960s and 1970s. Originally from Texas, he moved to Los Angeles in the mid-1960s, where he established his own label and a publishing company named Shelita, after his eldest daughter. Despite his efforts, he struggled to achieve recognition and became increasingly reclusive, leading to a rift with his family. After 1974, Gardner seemed to vanish from public life, and even his family was unaware of his whereabouts. It was suggested that he lived as a recluse. Leon Gardner was homeless at the time of his death in 2010.
