Les Abranis is an Algerian Kabyle rock group founded in 1967 in Paris. The band creatively blends contemporary influences such as rock, prog, jazz, disco, and electronics with traditional rhythms and melodies from the Berber people of the "Tamurt n Iqbayliyen" region in northeastern Algeria. The name "Les Abranis" references Berber history, specifically the Branis tribe, known for their role as reconcilers among warring tribes. This concept reflects the band's objectives, as explained by co-founder Shamy el Baz (real name Abdelkader Chemini) in a 2023 article by Jacques Denis for Pan African Music (PAM).
