Les Amazones de Guinée is an all-female band from Guinea, established in 1961. The group was founded by members who were officers in the Guinean army, known as the 'Gendarmerie'. The original lineup included Sona Diabaté, M'Mah Sylla, Condette Kouyate, Mama Niepo, Fatou Soumah, Nyépou Haba, and Kade Diallo, with additional founding members yet to be identified. Tragically, on February 25, 1983, Kade Diallo, the unique percussionist of the band, was involved in a fatal road accident near Conakry, shortly after the group returned from a successful tour in France. Following this incident, Les Amazones did not release another record until "Wamató" in 2008, marking only the second album in their history. The current lineup features Commandant Salematou Diallo as the bass player and bandleader, along with Commandant Djenabou Bah on tenor sax, Capitaine Elisabeth Camara on conga, Capitaine Mato Camara on timbales, Lieutenant M'Mah Sylla and Lieutenant Fatoumata N'Gady Keita on vocals, Daloba Keita on vocals, Yaya Kouyaté on solo guitar, N'Sira Tounkara on rhythm guitar, Mariama Camara on alto sax, and Mamade Cissé on drums.
