Les Rita Mitsouko is a French duo formed in the spring of 1979, consisting of Ringer on organ and Chichin on guitar, with all other elements being prerecorded. They debuted under the name Les Rita Mitsouko in November 1980 after performing in various clubs and bars across Europe. The band signed with Virgin Records in 1982 and released their first single, "Minuit Dansant," with the B-side "Don't Forget The Nite" becoming a surprise radio hit. They moved to Cologne to record their self-titled debut album, which was released by the end of 1984, featuring hits like "La Jalousie" and "Marcia Baila." Their popularity grew through tours with The Smiths and Kid Creole, leading to the recording of their second album, "The No Comprendo," with producer Tony Visconti in 1986. Filmmaker Jean-Luc Goddard documented the recording process in the film "Soigne Ta Droite." The album was released at the end of that year, and the band moved to New York in early 1987 to audition for a live band, resulting in a successful European tour. Their next album, "Marc Et Robert," was primarily written in the studio and included collaborations with Sparks. After another tour, they built a new studio at home.
