Shleu-Shleu is a Haitian kompa band formed on December 22, 1965, in Bas-Peut de Chose, Port-au-Prince, by former members of the groups Lorenceau and Memfoubins. Managed by Hugues "Dada" Jackaman, an Arab Haitian businessman of Palestinian origin, and directed by Tony Moïse, the band emerged from the remnants of Les Manfoubins, founded by Jean Baptiste, Jacques Vabre, Camille Philippe, and Kiki Bayard, following the demise of Les Frères Lorenceau. During their first appearance, Nemours Jean-Baptiste renamed them Mini Jazz due to their reduced format, coining the term mini-jazz, which also referenced the mini-skirt fashion of the time. The original lineup included solo saxophonist Tony Moise, lead vocalists Hans Cherubin (a.k.a. Gro Bébé) and Jean-Claude Pierre-Charles (a.k.a. Peddy). After gaining international recognition, they were invited to perform in New York City in 1970 at Casa Borinquen, where they decided to remain and spread their music throughout the Haitian diaspora in various American cities. However, in 1976, many original members left New York for various reasons, leading to a decline in the band's activity. This period lasted until 1991 when Jean-Baptiste Smith revived the band, incorporating new musicians such as saxophonist Evens Latort
