Lightnin' Hopkins was an American country blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist, born on March 15, 1912, in Centerville, Leon County, Texas. He passed away on January 30, 1982, in Houston, Texas. In 1920, he had the opportunity to play with a legendary musician at a social function. His cousin was also involved in music, and while performing together in Houston in 1946, Hopkins was discovered by Lola Anne Cullum of Los Angeles' music scene. He first recorded with pianist Wilson Smith, and the duo was marketed as 'Lightning' & 'Thunder.' Hopkins produced strong recordings, including the song "Mojo Hand" in 1960, and he went on to inspire many artists. He is often miscredited for writing the 1954 song "I Feel So Bad," which was covered by various artists. He also wrote a song of the same name released in 1947 and again in 1962.
