**Bio: Lillie Bryant** Lillie Bryant is an American singer born on February 14, 1940, in Newburgh, New York. She gained early recognition by singing in church and won second prize at the Apollo Theater’s amateur night at the age of 14 with her performance of Ruth Brown’s “Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean.” As a teenager, she performed at various clubs in New York City and was introduced to Billie Ford, with whom she formed the R&B duo Billie and Lillie. The duo recorded a series of singles for Swan Records in 1957 and 1958, achieving notable hits with “La Dee Dah” and “Lucky Ladybug.” They also participated in Alan Freed’s stage shows, touring with artists like Chuck Berry and Frankie Lymon, and made appearances on American Bandstand. After the duo split in 1959, Bryant pursued a solo career, releasing several records while continuing to sing jazz and perform in her hometown. She remained active in her community, becoming a community activist and running as the Democratic candidate for mayor of Newburgh in 2007.
