Linda Clifford is an American R&B, disco, and house music singer and actress, born on June 14, 1948, in Brooklyn, New York, USA. She is a former Miss New York State and initially fronted a jazz band before transitioning to R&B music. After winning her title, she also worked as an actress, taking on minor roles in films. Clifford recorded several singles before signing with a record label and released nine albums between 1977 and 1985, including a duet album with her producer. Her breakthrough single was a cover of the 1966 Broadway tune "If My Friends Could See Me Now," which was originally a hit for another artist in the late 1960s. Other notable songs in her career include her one-vinyl side long cover of "Bridge Over Troubled Water," her cover of "Tonight's The Night," "Runaway Love," "Red Light" from the "Fame" soundtrack, "Shoot Your Best Shot," "Don't Come Crying To Me," and the original 1982 version of "All The Man That I Need," which later became a hit for other artists. Clifford is regarded as a legendary diva by the newer house music generation and frequently collaborates with modern house artists, featuring on tracks like "Wanna Give It Up" and "Ride The Storm."
