Linda Cohen (1947 - January 23, 2009) was a Philadelphia guitarist and teacher known for her sensual, potent acoustic-guitar-led instrumentals and eerily atmospheric records. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, she was part of a vibrant free scene in Philadelphia, collaborating with avant-garde musicians such as Charles Cohen, Jefferson Cain, Craig Anderton, and Michael Kac. Her albums featured contributions from these artists, while her cover art was crafted by photographer Doug Randall and graphic designer Milton Glaser, with booking managed by David Carroll. Cohen performed at the Second Fret on Sansom Street, opening for notable artists like Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Joni Mitchell, John Fahey, and Dave Van Ronk, whose blues-influenced guitar playing left a mark on her style. At the age of 22, she connected with Kevin Eggers, head of Poppy/United Artists, who initially planned to release her records solo. However, Charles Cohen suggested enlisting Craig Anderton to produce her songs with his band, Anomoli. This collaboration resulted in the unique sound of her albums, Leda and Lake of Light, released in 1972 and 1973, respectively.
