Linda Hopkins was an American actress and a renowned blues and gospel singer, born on December 14, 1924, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She passed away on April 10, 2017, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Discovered at the age of eleven, Hopkins grew up singing and studying with a notable figure in her life. She idolized another artist and received critical acclaim for her rendition of Bessie Smith in the theatrical presentation “Jazz Train.” In the 1950s, she left New Orleans to establish herself as one of the great blues and gospel singers of her time. Throughout her career, she recorded classic, traditional, and urban blues, while also performing R&B, soul, jazz, and show tunes with distinction and style. Hopkins starred in several musical revues, including "Me And Bessie," which she wrote as a one-woman show in homage to Bessie Smith, premiering in Los Angeles in 1974. She also appeared in "Black And Blue," which premiered in Paris in 1985, and "Wild Women Blues," which premiered in Berlin in 1997.
