Linda Hopkins was an American actress, blues, and gospel singer born on December 14, 1924, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She passed away on April 10, 2017, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Hopkins was discovered at the age of eleven and grew up singing and studying with a notable figure in her early life. She idolized a prominent artist and received critical acclaim for her rendition of Bessie Smith in the theatrical presentation “Jazz Train.” In the 1950s, she left New Orleans to establish herself as one of the great blues and gospel singers of her time. Throughout her career, she recorded classic, traditional, and urban blues, and performed R&B, soul, jazz, and show tunes with distinction and style. Hopkins starred in several musical revues, including "Me And Bessie," a one-woman show she wrote as an homage to Bessie Smith, which premiered in Los Angeles in 1974; "Black And Blue," which premiered in Paris in 1985; and "Wild Women Blues," which premiered in Berlin in 1997.
