LITIA=LOE (Life In The Insane Asylum = Life On Earth) was formed in Chicago during the vibrant house movement of the 1980s. The group consisted of Leon Williams, Daryl Wilson, and brothers Grant and Simeon Rogers. They would gather every weekend to immerse themselves in the sounds at local clubs such as Music Box, Medusa, The PowerPlant, The Warehouse, and Frankie Knuckles’ Dance Palace, where DJs mixed a variety of genres from disco to new wave, industrial to house music. Inspired by these experiences, they would retreat to Leon’s basement to experiment with synthesizers, often jamming and sequencing beats into the late hours of the night. Simeon served as the technician, programming drums and layering sounds, while Leon contributed creative lyrics and vocal melodies, enhancing the overall sound. Grant focused on song composition and structure, and Daryl played a key role in arranging many unreleased tracks before leaving the band for personal reasons. Using a Tascam 8-track Portastudio, the group created rough tape mixes of their music to share with friends who would DJ their demos around town. Influenced by bands like Nitzer Ebb, Bauhaus, and Chris & Cosey, they produced a track characterized by heavy distortion and feedback. This track circulated in the clubs, gaining attention, with legend suggesting that Lil Louis claimed it as his own. Recognizing the competitive nature of the DJ scene, they decided to release a record
